Skowhegan

 

Dorothy Louise Adams, 86, of Skowhegan, formerly of Bingham,passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Cedar Ridge Nursing in Skowhegan.

 

Dorothy was born on January 25, 1930 in Copper Hill, Tennessee, a daughter of Horace and Cleo (Harrison) Prince. She was educated in the local schools.

 

She was a member of the Bingham Grange, the V.F.W., the American Legion Woman's Auxiliary, the Bingham Fireman's Auxiliary, the Church Circle, the Rebekah's and for many years she oversaw the flower arrangements for church.

 

Dorothy was employed for a few years at Hanson's Flower Shop in Bingham before opening her own florist shop, She would be responsible for supplying Christmas balls for the churches as well as Christmas wreaths for the churches and veteran's markers. She will be best remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.   

 

She liked to go berry picking, fiddle head picking and working in her garden, she was a wonderful caretaker , even if you were not family, her loving relationship with her family was the most important thing to her. She was a great cook and would be sure that if you came to visit , you would have something to eat. Dorothy enjoyed camping and going fishing with her husband,they fished in many of the local lakes and she still holds the family record for the largest trout caught.    

 

Dorothy met her husband to be  on a blind date and they were later married on July 2, 1949 and began a a beautiful life and marriage together.

 

She was predeceased by both of her parents, her first born son Larry Adams who died at only three days old. By her loving husband George E. Adams on October 23, 1983. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Ruby Prince, Susan Milam and  Geneva Hewes and by her brothers,  Lloyd Prince, Hoyt Prince Junior Prince and Clinton Prince.

 

Dorothy is survived by her children, Brenda “ Breezie” Turner and her husband Frank of Fairfield, Barry “Butch” Adams of Solon, Wanda “Sue” King and her husband Louis of Mississippi, Mark Adams and his wife Pam of Missouri, Betty Jo “BJ” Shaw and her husband Larry Goodwin of Bingham and a step son Douglas Reid and his wife Jane of Skowhegan.

 

She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Martina “Marti” Marschall and her husband James of New Hampshire, Brad Dube and his wife Sara of Starks, Wade Adams , Barry “BJ”: Adams and his wife Melissa of Starks, Taylor  King of Oregon, James Adams of Missouri, George Adams and his wife Cassie also of Missouri and Mylana Shaw of Skowhegan as well as several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 

Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Giberson Funeral Home 18 River Street, Bingham.A Funeral service will be held on Monday August 15, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the First Congregational Church in Bingham, burial will follow in Bingham Village Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson Funeral Home, Bingham.
