NORRIDGEWOCK — Hilma Millett died peacefully in Cedar Ridge Center on Jan. 24, 2017 in Skowhegan, Maine. She was 89.

 

Hilma is survived by her daughters, Valerie Riordan of Florida and Susan Millett of Maine. She leaves behind her granddaughters Stacy, Shannon, Brandy and Tara. She was the loving great-grandmother of Amanda, Justin, Tyler, Jason, Heron and Connor. She also has a sister, Helen, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Hilma was born June 14, 1932 in Augusta to Willard and Phyllis Witham. She graduated from Cony High School in 1945 and the Augusta School of Business in 1946. Hilma married Raymond Millett in 1947 and they lived in Richmond for many years. After several moves around the state, they settled in Norridgewock where they built a house beside the Kennebec River. They also built a cottage in South Addison, where many of Hilma’s ancestors and relatives lived.

 

After Hilma retired as a secretary from Perkins, Townsend Shay & Talbot in Skowhegan, she became a world traveler, Master Gardener and avid quilter. For many years, she spent endless hours with her fellow quilters, crafting lovely, unique quilts and wall hangings. She also was a very active and competitive bridge player.

 

Hilma is predeceased by her husband, Raymond; grandson, Jason; brother, Donald and sister, Margaret.

 

A memorial gathering will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31 at Giberson Funeral Home in Madison. Please do not send flowers. Instead, consider making a donation to the South Addison Cemetery. To do this, send a check payable to Susan Millett, Skowhegan Savings Bank, P.O. Box 250, Skowhegan, ME. 04976.

 

Burial will be in the spring or summer at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery for family only.
