Rebecca J. (Howes) Burns,65, of Athens, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, at her home, on the morning of July 8,2016.

Becky was born in Skowhegan on December 15, 1950, a daughter of Erlin and Katherine (Atwood) Howes. She attended the local schools and although she had to leave school prematurely to work to help her family, she was very proud of herself, as was the rest of her family when she was able to return and receive her GED and CNA.

She was employed at an early age as a CNA at Maplecrest Rehabilitation in Madison. She worked at Kennebec Valley Community Action Program installing insulation. Most recently she worked as a house manager for Forest City Resources now known as Medical Care Development, for many years everyone loved working their shifts with her. For all of the many hats that she wore throughout her life, she will be best remembered as a very strong and loving mother who raised her 2 boys, a loving wife to her husband of 30 years Larry W. Burns and a wonderful grandmother with a great sense of humor.

Rebecca enjoyed her flower gardens, paint by numbers, puzzles and family cook outs. She especially loved her pets and her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, Erlin and Katherine Howes, her brother Kicker Howes a great nephew Jason Griffeth and her very special aunt Sarah Patten.

Becky is survived by her husband Larry W. Burns of Athens.

Her two sons, Michael Howes and his wife Lynda of Madison and Sam Howes and his wife Millie, of Madison her granddaughters, Desireah and Destiny Howes, of Madison, a sister, Barbra Griffeth, of Skowhegan, many nieces and nephews, and cousins, and some very special friends who know who they are.

Becky wanted everyone to dress casually and her favorite color is red.
