My condolances to the family of Mr. Miller for your loss. I was lucky enough to get the chance to tell him this summer in person how important he was in shaping my career and life. He truly was a fishers of men.

Uncle Nick was one of my heroes growing up. I always admired him for his humor, wit, and his overall knowledge on just about everything. As an adult I appreciate that he could "tell it like it is" and didn't really care if he was being sensitive or "politically correct" or not. Not many people are brave enough to take the risk of offending.

I can remember from when I was a little kid all of the amazing talents that he had and the things that he had built and created. He was also the ultimate sportsman. I always thought that if you had any questions about hunting or fishing - that he was the guy to ask. I knew that he was well-liked and respected by his students, colleagues and others that knew him. From ever since I can remember - he was the man that I wanted to be someday.

I was thrilled when I finally was able to take Industrial Arts my senior year at Carrabec. I remember trying my absolute best in his classes because I didn't want to disappoint him. I am not sure how I measured up in his eyes but I loved the class and I felt he was a great teacher. Not knowing what I wanted to do after high school, my parents suggested that perhaps I might consider being an Industrial Arts teacher - like Uncle Nick. I guess I had no idea at the time what path he had taken or how I could follow in that path- but it was a no-brainer at that point.

Well, I did followed his path to some extent. I am an Industrial Arts teacher today and have been for the past 37 years. (I am not so much of an avid sportsman, though). I always looked forward to seeing Uncle Nick at Labor Day. He was always as sharp as ever and usually had a new project of some sort that he was involved with. I will miss that. I hope that he knew how much his life had influenced mine and so many others.

I am very sorry Aunt Jill, family and friends. We will miss you, Uncle Nick,

As with all things in life, we never express the gratitude that we should to the people that help shape our future.. I didn't realize at the time, that when Mrs. Martin said I wouldn't make it in the college program, that it was the best thing that could have happened. Mr. Miller helped our class achieve in ways beyond our abilities at the time as well as teaching us with patience. I didn't appreciate at the time that this was what a teacher was meant to be. He taught us more then what was expected for the class curriculum, he taught us about what it takes to be good young men. There is much that could be said about Mr. Miller, but what he gave me were the skills to become the successful man I am today.
From a grateful student.

We were such good friends during our years at Carrabec. Our condolences go out to Jill and family. So sorry we moved and went our separate ways. He will be sorely missed and gone too soon. Rest In Peace, Nick. You were one of the best friends I had and one of the best teachers I knew. Will not be able to make memorial service, but thoughts will be with you and family.
