Shirley Pollis died peacefully in her home on December 6, 2017, just where she wanted to be. She was 88.

Shirley was born on November 2nd, 1929 at her parent’s home in Turner, ME. Her parents were David and Mildred {Safford} Gustus. She graduated in 1947 from Leavitt Institute in Turner. She married Everett Pollis in 1948. They lived in Madison and Anson, moving to Florida and to the Panama Canal Zone in 1965 until her husband’s retirement in 1981. She returned to Maine after the death of her husband, living in Anson, with her daughter and son in law, for 36 years.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a lifelong homemaker. She was well known for her apple pies, cookies and homemade donuts. Shirley had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed everything from gold panning, clam digging to Saturday night dancing. She had a quick wit that kept us all laughing. She was a loving “Granny” to her only grandchild, Holly Maglione.

She is survived by her son, Alan Pollis of Skowhegan, ME; her daughter and son in law, Cathy and Doug Sears of Anson, ME; her granddaughter and husband, Holly and Nick Maglione of Topsham, ME. We also acknowledge her nephew Garrick Grant and special acknowledgement to her niece, Tanya Strout for her selfless support. She is preceded in death by her husband, Everett and her sisters, Florence Heaward and Christine Grant; her brothers Leroy and Leonard Gustus. Shirley will be buried in the Spring at Forest Hill Cemetery, in Madison, ME on May 12, 2018 at 10 AM, all are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Embden Pond Association, PO box 208, North Anson, Maine 04958.
