J. Wallace (Wally) Bisson 1926 – 2017 JACKMAN – J. Wallace (Wally) Bisson died unexpectedly at Maine Medical Center on June 27, 2017 at the age of 91.

Wally was born on April 24, 1926 in Jackman, the son of Ovila and Lea Bisson. He was a lifelong Jackman resident, attended local schools and graduated from Jackman High School in 1943. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Lake Champlain during World War II.

He married Frances (Achey) Bisson on June 10, 1948 in Jackman and together they raised two children. In later years, they enjoyed winters in Cocoa, Florida. They were married nearly 64 years before Frances passed away in 2012.

Wally partnered with his father in 1952 to establish an automotive repair and car sales business, Bisson & Son, which he operated for 32 years. Wally earned his pilot’s wings in 1974 and subsequently established an Air Taxi Service along with a Flight School and provided flight instructions to many of the area’s pilots.

Wally was very active in the community and was a lifelong communicant of St Anthony’s Parish. He was a past member of Jackman’s Board of Selectmen, the Marie-Joseph Hospital Board, St Anthony’s Parish Council and he was on the Board of Directors for Border Trust Bank. He was also very involved with the Newton Field Airport and was extremely honored when the municpal hanger was dedicated in his name.

Wally’s passions were family, flying and baseball. He lived a full and wonderful life and was blessed with great health right up until he passed away. In addition to his parents and wife, Wally was pre-deceased by three sisters, Marie Laure (Bisson) Falardeau, Anita (Bisson) Vigue and Sylvia (Bisson) Whitlow. He is survived by his children Connie (Bisson) Bouchard and partner Robert Tooker of Raymond, Mike Bisson and wife Cathy of Sidney, grandchildren Amanda (Bisson) Morrisette of Westbrook, JT Bisson and wife Joann of Portland and Nicole (Bisson) Allard and husband Don of Freeport, great grandson Maxwell Morrisette of Westbrook, brother, Leon Bisson and wife Martha of Clinton, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Arlene Achey of Jackman. He is also survived by a fellowship of area pilots that were like a second family to him. He will be missed by all.
