Richard John Russell, 88, of Waterville, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Oak Grove Nursing Center in Waterville.

 

Richard was born on July 10, 1930 in Skowhegan, the son of Willis and Ada (Wright) Russell. Following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, proudly serving his country in Korea where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. Returning home he attended college and became an insurance sales representative. He owned and operated R.J. Russell Insurance Agency for more than 40 years.

 

He was a member and Deacon at the Madison Congregational Church from 1945 until they closed, a Senior Ambassador of the Kora Temple Shriners, past president of the Central Maine Shriners, a past commander of the VFW, member of the Madison Kiwanis Club and member of the American Legion Post # 39.

 

He was predeceased by both of his parents as well as a daughter, Kimberly J. Russell.

 

Richard is survived by his wife Jacquelyn B. Russell of Waterville, his son Richard J. Russell II, his daughter Kristin J. Russell, granddaughters Margo Taylor and Alexandra Russell, grandsons Larry Nelson and Lucas Landry, his sister Marilyn Thibodeau, and several loving grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 in Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison at 11:00 AM. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson Funeral Home, Madison.
