Ruth E. Hibbard, 90, of Madison , passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Somerset Rehabilitation in Bingham.

 

She was born on June 11, 1927 in Madison, a daughter of Melville and Helen (Sage) Gould. She attended and graduated from Madison High School, the class of 1945. She was a lifelong member of the Madison Congregational Church and served on the board of trustees. She was on the board of the Madison Public Library and was an active member of the Madison Women's Club.

 

Ruth married the love of her life, Derrill E. Hibbard on October 9, 1948. They raised four sons together.

 

She was a fantastic cook and baker, people still remember the wonderful cookies, pies, cakes and yeast rolls. Ruth was an avid sports fan, she attended all of the home games for Madison and when her grandchildren began to play sports in Bingham , she would attended all of their home games as well. Ruth received the Fan Of The Year award from Madison High School and was fondly known as the Candy Lady, because she would bring a large bag of mixed candy to every game and pass the bag around to all of the fans, including the opposing team.

 

Ruth also enjoyed playing golf at Lakewood and once received an award for her Hole In One. She like to play cards especially Bridge. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, she will be truly missed.

 

She was predeceased by both of her parents, her husband Derrill E. Hibbard, a son, Derrill E. Hibbard Jr., by two sisters, Frances Richards and Marie Morrissette, as well as a brother, James Gould.

 

Ruth is survived by her sons, James M. Hibbard and his fiance Nancy MacDonald of Bingham, Chester A. Hibbard and his wife Debra also of Bingham and Bryan E. Hibbard of Panama City, Florida.

 

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Corey Hibbard and his wife Kirsten, Tony Hibbard and his wife Alicia, Jessica Hibbard and her fiance Trevor Whitney, Angela Hibbard, Barbie Furness, Starla Hibbard, Bryan Hibbard Jr and his wife Samantha, Joseph Hibbard and his wife Elizabeth , 13 Great grandchildren and two brothers, Richard Gould of Greenville and Melville Gould II of Staceyville.

 

Her family would like to thank the staff of Somerset Rehabilitation and Living Center for the compassionate care they provided to Ruth over the past few years.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 Pm at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple Street, Madison. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 10:00 AM in Somerset Abbey, Main Street, Madison. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson Funeral Home, Madison.
