Walter C. Matthews, 73, of Bingham, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at his home in Bingham with his loving wife at his side.

Walter was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on June 11, 1945, a son of Charles and Jessie (Rodman) Matthews. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force.

He worked most of his life in the steel industry, retiring from T B Wood Foundry in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He was a hard worker and dedicated to his career. Walter never minded a 16 hour day, he loved the molten metal.

Walt enjoyed the outdoors, snowmobiling, golfing and boating. He loved his family and he had lots of friends. He was especially fond of his daughter, and grandchildren. Walter will be best remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and good friend.

He was predeceased by his parents, and five of his siblings, Ronny Matthews, Alice Jack, Warren Jack, Arlene Jack and Harold Jack.

Walter is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen Matthews, daughter, Karen Haapala, grandchildren, EJ Haapala, Vicki Haapala, Dustin Haapala and Rachel Haapala, his great grandchildren the twins, Blair and Jake Haapala. He is also survived by five siblings, Richard Matthews, Roberta Matthews, Robert Matthews, Jessie Matthews and Earl Jack. As well as many nieces and nephews.

There are no formal funeral services planned at this time. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson Funeral Home and Cremation services, Bingham.
