Walter Henry White, Madison

November 28, 1923 – July 22, 2018

Walter passed away peacefully into everlasting life in the predawn hours of Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home at the age of 94.

He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Waneta Marion White, his parents, Henry and Suzanne (Savoy) White, and all of his brothers and sisters.

Walter was the youngest of 12 children, born and raised in Madison of Canadian immigrant parents. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He was in the third wave of ships in the Normandy Invasion. He was married in 1947 and lived a quiet life raising four children in Madison, Maine.

He was gifted with creative artistic abilities and a great sense of humor. In his earlier years, he spent time drawing, painting, fabricating toys for his children, and building bird houses and weather vanes with amazing detail. He also enjoyed playing guitar and harmonica.

Walter worked at the Paper Mill in Madison for 47 years until he retired at the age of 67. He was a devout member of the Saint Sebastian Church in Madison, attending faithfully until the age of 91 when he could no longer drive. Walter lived at home until October, 2017 when he became a resident at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in Skowhegan, where the staff referred to Walter as a gentleman with a sweet disposition.

Walter will be greatly missed by his children; Bernadette Puiia and husband Barry of Winslow, Wayne White and wife Kathy of Anson, Terry White and wife Melanie of Norridgewock, and Debra White-Dodge and husband Peter of Madison. Grandchildren; Paul Puiia and wife Shannon of Winslow, Heidi Zetterman and husband Matt of Waterville, Sarah Vezina and husband Eric of Phillipston, MA, Adam Puiia and wife Allison of Winslow, and four great grandchildren.

Friends are asked to join the family for an hour of visitation on Wednesday, August 1st, 2018 from 10:00am – 11:00am in Saint Sebastian Catholic Church on Main Street in Madison, Maine.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 1st 2018, at 11:00am in Saint Sebastian Catholic Church, followed by a burial in Saint Sebastian Cemetery.
