Albert Nelson “Bert” LaRose, Jr.

May 15, 1948 - February 12, 2026

Bert passed away peacefully at his home with the early morning sun shining on his face and his loving wife, Linda, and faithful dog, White Sox, by his side.

Bert was the son of Albert Nelson “Al” and Madeline LaRose. He graduated from Marlborough High School where he was recognized as “Most Athletic” having been active in sports throughout his school years. Friendships from his youth always remained meaningful to him.

Bert was a Navy veteran and served on the USS Little Rock in the Mediterranean. He was the ship’s journalist and operated the ship’s radio station.

Bert pursued further education in Boston for HVAC & R Technology. He attended UMass Amherst, University of Southern Maine, and Unity College. In pursuit of broadening his life focus Bert attended a variety of workshops, conferences, and trainings in areas of health and wellbeing, spiritual growth and development, prayer, meditation, energy work, shamanism, gardening, nature, carpentry, construction, self-employment, ethical business practices, and more.

Bert’s career reflected his many interests and talents. For much of his career Bert was self-employed. He owned a restaurant, built and operated the Ice Cream Garden, and managed his handyman service. Bert also worked at Maine Audubon, MSAD #59, and East Parish Housing Ministry guiding youth volunteers in home repair for those in need. He often shared special memories of working on the Marlborough (MA) road crew while in high school. For several years Bert was a member of the Madison Anson Chamber of Commerce and received special recognition for his work on the Father Rasle Days Celebration.

Bert embraced his life-long dream of moving to the country when he moved to Maine in 1975. Shortly after moving, he met Linda. They knew they were meant to be together and married nearly 50 years ago “in the field”. They shared a faith centered journey grounded in love, gratitude, nature, simplicity, forever learning, and being of service.

Bert found joy in simple pleasures ~ working with his hands in the shop or in the garden, moving soil or rocks with his tractor, playing with White Sox, and especially sharing coffee and stories with his special friends. Gatherings with family and friends were most meaningful to him, as he cherished the time with his loved ones ~ nieces, nephews, siblings and their spouses, and an extended circle of cousins, in-laws, and many friends from youth to recent times.

Bert will be remembered for his independent spirit, practical skills, special way of “seeing” people, lovingkindness, and his forever question of balance.

Bert will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Linda and dog White Sox; brothers Edward (wife Janet), George, Steve (wife Mary); sister Susan (husband John); brother-in-law Daniel (wife LeAnne), sister-in-law Gloria (husband Danny), and sister-in-law Joanne (husband Laton); and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Bert is predeceased by his parents Al and Madeline LaRose, father and mother-in-law Abel and Irene Duplessis, special nephew Bob Edwards, and dear friend Bob Hines.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care and support that Bert received from the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Togus VA, Sandy River Rehab, Beacon Hospice - especially from Brienne, the Dempsey Center, and Anson Madison Starks Ambulance Service.

A celebration of Bert’s life will be held at the Starks Community Center on Saturday, August 1, 2026, starting at 1PM. This is a special time to share a story, memory, memento, or song that connects us with Bert.

Donations in Bert’s name may be made to the Starks Enrichment & Education Society, Starks Community Center, 57 Anson Road, Starks, ME 04911 (www.starksme.com/seeds⁠). SEEdS seeks to encourage the education, enrichment, and health of adults and children in Starks.

Arrangements are under the care of Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple Street, Madison, ME where memories, photos, and condolences may be shared.
