Betty Dow Obituary

Betty Jean Dow, 81, of Madison, Maine, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at her home with her loving family by her side.

She was born on September 8, 1943, in Eagle Lake, Maine, the daughter of Leonard Dufour and Anne Thibault.


Betty was a beloved member of her community and a woman of deep commitment and service. She was a devoted member of the  Grange Hall in Madison, and the Tardiff-Belanger American Legion Auxiliary Unit 39. Her love for her community was evident in all she did, and she served with both heart and dedication.


More than anything, Betty cherished time with her family. As the true matriarch, she brought warmth, strength, and unconditional love to all those around her. Her home was always open, her heart always full, and her presence a source of comfort and joy.


She is predeceased by her beloved son, David Duprey, and her granddaughter, Lynze Rose Duprey.


Betty is survived by her children: Tony Duprey and his wife Cyndy of Madison; Lenny Duprey of Waterville; Norma Jean Duprey of Mountain Grove, MO; and Michael Cates and his wife Sarah of Skowhegan. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Ezekiel Duprey, Jessika Duprey, Joshua Duprey, Alex Cates, and Autumn Cates; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.


She is also survived by her siblings: Mae Willis of Newport, NC; Maynard Dufour of Newport, NC; Anita Hardy of Peletier, NC; and Linda Dufour of Newport, NC. She will also be lovingly remembered by her former spouse and best friend, Cecil Dow of Starks, Maine.


Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, service, and strength will live on in the hearts of those she touched.


A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple Street Madison, Maine 04950 officiated by Pastor Tobin Curtis.
