Clarence Duplessis, a man of unwavering strength and gentle kindness, passed away on September 2, 2026, with his wife and two daughters by his side, after a long and courageous journey with cancer. Born on May 11, 1949, in Skowhegan, Maine, Clarence was the beloved son of Lawrence J. Duplessis and Adrienne Lefebvre Duplessis, both of whom predeceased him.
Clarence was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 55 years, Barbara Duplessis, with whom he shared a life full of love and adventure. Together, they raised two daughters, Christie York and Lisa Glidden. Clarence took immense pride in his grandchildren, Alexander Roy, Ciarrah Roy, Tucker Roy, and Hunter Roy, who brought boundless joy to his life. Clarence is also survived by his sister, Sally Lagassee, along with his extended family and numerous friends. He will forever be in our hearts and his memory will be cherished always.
Clarence grew up in Bingham, Maine and is a graduate of Valley High School and Skowhegan Business School. A man of service and dedication, Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Army just after finishing business school, serving his country with honor for 21 years. He reached the rank of 1st Sergeant, E8, and was stationed overseas twice, in Italy for 4 ½ years and Germany for 2 years, as well as across the eastern United States and Alaska. During his military career, Clarence continued his education and received numerous ribbons and medals. After retiring from the Army in 1991, he pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a tractor-trailer driver, working for J & S Oil Co. and Poland Spring Co. He later volunteered as a driver for KVCAP, fully retiring in 2012.
Clarence's life was rich with varied interests and passions. He loved spending time with his family, especially during summer cookouts and holiday gatherings. Christmas was his favorite holiday, and he enjoyed this time with his family. His grandchildren especially enjoyed the special traditions they had with their Papa. He collected Christmas paper like no other person could ever imagine. Clarence had a huge passion for motorcycles, specifically his Honda Goldwing. His hobbies included camping out at the campground back in his younger years, target practicing with family, mastering the yo-yo, fishing, exploring the back roads untraveled, playing lawn darts and corn hole. An avid reader, Clarence also enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics and Pro wrestling, listening to old country music, and collecting military challenge coins to hand out to honor and thank fellow veterans for their service. He is an all-around dog lover and his fondness for Cocker Spaniels was well-known. He enjoyed visiting his grand pups often and always made sure to have his pockets full of dog treats for them. Clarence shared his love for white chocolate with his one and only granddaughter. He also loved going to Ken's Restaurant for fried clams, loved having Chinese food, enchiladas, fried ice cream, peanut butter and coconut cream pies.
Known for his humorous sayings and distinctive personality, Clarence's warmth and wit were a source of joy to those around him. Some of his favorite and famous sayings are "Do you have a hole in your foot?" for whenever you ate too much, "Good-N-You? Not bad, yourself?", "How'd that work out for you?", "Breakfast, dinner, supper", "Don't she go and can't I drivah". He was thoughtful, organized, and unafraid to speak his mind, yet his heart was always open to his loved ones and fellow veterans.
