Clayton Sidell Obituary

Clayton Frederick Sidell peacefully passed on January 2, 2025 at the age of 90.  Clayton will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of sixty-seven years, JoAnne, their four children and spouses:  DeeAnne and David Stuart, Darren Sidell and his fiance Julie Terelmes, Dean and Pam Sidell and Dennet and Heather Sidell as well as his fourteen grandchildren; Andiana, Duncan and his wife Mikayla, Molly, Drew and his wife Meghan McDaid, Sarah Perkins and her husband Travis, Emma, Daniel, Micah, Micaiah and her fiance Kyle Luce, Haven, DJ, Dane, Linnea Mae and Declan.  Clayton grew up with his four siblings in the small mill town of Madison, Maine.  He met JoAnne–who lived three blocks away–and they married on June 8, 1957.  They moved to Hamilton, Massachusetts where they raised their family.

Clayton spent his life loving and mentoring his family and serving God.  Clayton’s professional work was devoted to Higher Education, working

at Gordon College and then Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary as the Business Manager and subsequently, the Assistant President.  Outside of work, he spent time with his family and served in his church as an active member, Elder, and Interim Pastor at The Community Church of East Gloucester.  Clayton loved to attend all of his children’s and  grandchildren’s musical and athletic events.  He had a burden to strengthen Christian families, so, with his wife and children, he formed the Sidell Family Singers, who toured New England and the east coast for over ten years.  Their goal was to spread the Gospel, and encourage other families to work together in their pursuit of and service for Christ.  After retiring, Clayton spent countless hours taking daily care of the elderly, including his in-laws, so that they could live out their final years at home.

Clayton has left a beautiful legacy of loving devotion to his family, as well as a strong, living faith of service to God in spreading the wonderful news of the Gospel!

The family is planning to have services this spring as Clayton will be buried in his family plot in Madison, Maine.   In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Community Church of East Gloucester, 7 Chapel Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
