Eleanor M. Beane
August 6, 1934 - September 1, 2026
Eleanor M. Beane passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born in Anson on August 6, 1934, the daughter of Lester and Dora (Worcester) Merrill.
Eleanor graduated from Madison High School in 1951 and married Donald Walter Beane in 1953, while he was home on leave from the U.S. Navy.
Eleanor was friendly and out-going. Throughout her life, she worked in a variety of places. She enjoyed her time as a telephone operator, working in the box office at Lakewood Theater, and for many years, at Taylor’s Drug Store in Anson.
Eleanor and Donald enjoyed camping and fishing together, and spending time with their grandchildren. They also loved taking weekend drives, exploring new areas, and stopping along the way to find treasures at yard sales and “flea market gifts” for their family.
Eleanor appreciated beautiful things. She believed we should all look our best and even opened a thrift shop in an addition to her home on Preble Avenue, called “Miss Ellie’s.” In her retirement she volunteered in the library at the school where her son Dana taught, and was a member of the Anson Sunshine Club, where she spent many years helping neighbors in need. Her commitment to her community continued into her 90s. In her later years she loved reading and beautiful flowers and watching her birds.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Walter S. Beane, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, her beloved husband, Donald, and two of her three children, Donna B. Williams and Dana L. Beane, all of whom she missed dearly.
Friends and family will gather at Giberson’s Funeral Home in Madison on Wednesday, September 16th at 11:00. Eleanor will be laid to rest in the family plot at Athearn Cemetery in Anson.
