Ernest Louis Giroux of Jackman, passed away July 23rd, 2024 at age 84. He was born in Jackman on August 6th, 1939 the son of Theodore and Minnie (Dyer) Giroux. He attended Forest Hills School and upon graduation joined the Navy where he served 4 years on the USS Thuban.
He married the love of his life, Susan A. (Noel) in 1964. He worked briefly in New York before moving back to Jackman to take a job with Scott Paper Company. He enjoyed many years working as a scaler in the woods. He later worked for Reggie Griffin until retirement. His passion was sports, especially the Red Sox and the Pittsburg Steelers. He never missed a Red Sox game even if he had to listened to it from a car radio in the driveway. He dedicated his life to coaching many generations of kids in basketball and softball and showed his school spirit for many years after retiring by cheering from the bleachers. He also loved time spent with his wife and children hunting and trapping. He taught hunters safety, was a scout leader, worked at the cemetery and belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
He is preceded by his father Theodore Giroux, Mother Minnie (Dyer) Giroux, wife of 50 years Susan A. (Noel) Giroux and Sister Katherine Morissette. He is survived by his sister Mary Lee Audet and husband Lawrence of Waterville Maine, daughter Cheree Conrad and husband Troy of Moscow Maine, daughter Jody Simard and husband John of Evans Mills New York, son Mark Giroux and wife Sara of Moose River Maine, son Tony Giroux and companion Jill Porchetta of Knox Maine, and many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 6th, at St Anthony Cemetery in Jackman Maine at 10am with a reception to follow at the American Legion.
