Gail Quimby Obituary

Norridgewock,

Gail Marie (Gallant) Quimby, 75 of Norridgewock passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 4, 2024.  She was born on August 27, 1948 to Roy J. and Loraine A. (McCarthy) Gallant.

Gail graduated from Madison Area Memorial High School as the first female Class President in 1966.  She continued to make a mark in this world for the rest of her time.  She was an avid volunteer in many realms.  She volunteered in PreK classrooms, was a Girl Scout Leader, and spent 13 years on the MSAD 54 School Board. Once her children were school age she became a Certified Nursing Aide and worked many years as a CNA mostly at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville until she retired.  She was a hard worker and took care of people when they needed it most.  She was also actively involved in the Catholic faith and a member of the Daughters of Isabella.  She made religious pilgrimages to Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Vatican, Rome and visited the Basilica of St. Anne de Beaupre, Canada annually for several years.

She was known as “mom” by many local youth in the 80’s and 90’s as she and Charlie continued her father Roy’s family roller skating business.  She was the heart of the roller skating rink and all have fond memories of their time skating every weekend.

She met Charlie Quimby, Jr. (Charlie Boy), while pumping his gas at her family's local gas station in Norridgewock in 1965. He was the love of her life and they were married in 1967 and were able to enjoy 56 joyous years married.  They were blessed with three daughters Lauri Linda Quimby (Shawn Oberheim) of Canaan, Jill Adelia Lawrence (Mark) of Norridgewock, and Melannie Muriel Keister (Matthew) also of Norridgewock.  She was able to be an active grandmother in the lives of her nine grandchildren, Nichole, Alexandra, Samantha, Charles, Albert, Shawna, Dana, Matthew and Michael and step grandchildren Anthony (AJ) and Dalton.  Those blessings gave her nine great grandchildren and two more on the way.  She was happy to attend anything and everything that her grandchildren participated in, her family was truly the joy of her life.  She is also survived by her sister in law, April Gallant of Poland, brother in law Nelson Quimby, Sr. (Theresa) of Norridgewock, and sister in law Linda Williams (James) of Madison, step brother Ron Fox and a large extended family with many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.  She was also the Godmother to several family members' children.

She was predeceased by her parents, in-laws Charles, Sr. and Muriel, step mother Doris, brothers Roy, Jr., and James, Sr., brother in law Kenneth, Sr., sister in law Rebecca and most recently sister and best friend, RoiAnn Twitchell, step sister Paula Fox as well as her special nephew James, Jr. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
