Gary Bowman Obituary

 

Gary Bert Bowman 75, of Norridgewock, passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2021 at his home in Norridgewock.

Gary was born in Skowhegan, Maine on September 18, 1946 a son of Alfred and Marie (McLaughlin) Bowman. Lived in Cornville and, following graduation from Somerset Academy in Athens, he enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam war on the USS Plymouth Rock LSD29 all 4 years of his service.

After returning home, he attended the Skowhegan Business School and, after graduating there, was employed with many businesses and did many jobs prior to his employment with United States Postal Service in 1977 as a rural mail carrier, and then through many positions within the Post Office until eventually becoming a window clerk at the Norridgewock Post Office until his retirement.

Gary was a member of the Skowhegan Elks club for many years ,and now a member of the American Legion, Post 39. He enjoyed restoring classic cars and going to car shows, but he especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents as well as two brothers, Wayne and Niles Bowman.

Gary is survived by his wife Linda (Cooley)Bowman of Norridgewock, three sons, Matthew Bowman and his wife Jenna and their two children, Maximilian and Zoe of New Hampshire, Adam and his wife Barbara and their twin girls, Sara and Lindsay of Hallowell, and Michael Bowman of Cornville and his son Dominic. He is also survived by his step-daughters, Angela Fortier and her husband Alan and their three children Anna, Elijah and Elizabeth of Richmond, Jenny- Lyn Brown and her husband Daniel of Hudson, Nyla Hicks and her husband Jon and their two children Evan and Morgan of Levant, as well as his sister, Linda Wood and her husband Ted, and a very special niece Alison Salley. Over the last 2 years they were also blessed with 2 great grandsons, Abraham and Aiden Smith.

Because of Gary’s love for animals, family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, anyone wishing may donate in his memory to their favorite Animal Rescue or Shelter.

A graveside service will be held in the spring.
