Gary E. Hall

MOOSE RIVER - Gary E. Hall, 91, of Moose River passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Hospice & Palliative Care Unit - Togus Springs in Augusta. He was born on March 13, 1935, in Moose River, son of the late Penelope (Stewart) Hall and Lawrence Hall. He graduated from Jackman High School and served two years for the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. When he returned home, he began working in the woods industry, later operating his own company which included working for Great Northern Paper. In 1976 he partnered with Charlie Lumbert and Reggie Griffin to purchase the Beaudry Lumber Co. mill operation in Holeb. Shortly after, it was renamed Moose River Lumber and moved to its current location.

Gary married Lisa Letourneau on April 7, 1979. Together he and Lisa spent time at Little Big Wood camp, Cocoa Beach, Florida, and other special places with their children. Throughout his life Gary was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in places like Jones Pond, Sugar Berth, and many places across Northern Quebec and Labrador, including the camp in Gagnon. He recorded many of these outings and daily weather reports in his camp journals—a written legacy his family will cherish for generations. Post retirement, Gary enjoyed fishing trips, snowmobiling, working on camps, gardening, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He could often be found into Little Big Wood with his loyal dog, Kobe, whether it was to do camp chores, making maple syrup or fishing. He was also an avid sports fan, particularly of the Boston Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics. Gary always looked forward to seeing family and friends, catching up and sharing eventful stories.

He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Constance Hall Krukowski, brother Alton Hall, son Jeffery Hall, and son in law Walter Allen, Jr.

He is survived by his wife Lisa, three sons, Gary Hall of Jackman; David Hall and his wife Maria of Spain; Eric Hall and his wife Chelsea of Jackman; and daughter Laura Allen of Jackman; his brother Warren Hall and wife Linda of Sidney, and sister Brenda Hall Crawford of Low Gap, N.C. He leaves behind his grandchildren Dylan Hall, Suzanna Hall, Landry Allen, Jase Allen, Sophia Hall, and Lydia Hall. As well as his very dear friends, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held in his honor at Whipple Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026. A celebration of life will follow at Border Riders Sportsman’s Club.
