After getting out of the service, Harold worked for Morris Trucking in Bingham. He later got his own truck and hauled wood for many years. After enough of that he went to work for Skowhegan Vacuum Systems in Skowhegan until his retirement.
In 1976, Harold married the love of his life Pauline (Polly) Bickford. They were married for 42 wonderful years until her death on April 7, 2019. They loved going to the coast in the summer to enjoy lobsters and the ocean. In the fall they enjoyed harness races. In the winter they did many beautiful puzzles together. Harold also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. He loved his flower and vegetable gardens. One rose bush he had he called Seven Sisters. It was very prickly and you couldn’t go near the thing. It seemed like it would reach out and grab you. Harold brought it from the old homestead on the Drury Road in Solon, Maine, where he was raised.
