Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Hattie E. Young on Monday, July 11, 2022 just shy of her ninety-first birthday. She was born in Madison Maine on September 3, 1931 to Ellery and Julia (Lynds) Heald, the second of four daughters. At age 18, she married John M. Young Jr. of Anson.

She and John bought a farmhouse in Anson in 1959 and Hattie lived there for 57 years. Together they had five children.

Hattie was active in the Christ Community Fellowship formerly the Madison Baptist Church, Mission Circle and the Madison Extension Homemakers. She was also an animal lover and volunteered in local shelters as well as having many much-loved pets. She loved sewing and crafts and was always creating something new. She loved flowers and grew them inside and out. She also had a large vegetable garden and canned its bounty. She loved to watch and feed the birds.

She is survived by her sons, Gregory Young and his wife Ellen of Gales Ferry CT, and Bruce Young of Augusta ME, her daughter, Beth Young of Leander TX, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Two sisters, Elaine Peterson and Crystal Locke both of Starks, also survive her as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her husband, John, her sister Virginia Heald of Bangor and two sons, Dale Young of North Anson and Dana Young of Winterport, predecease her.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. Her ashes will be buried in the Athearn Cemetery in Anson at a future date.

Anyone who wishes to honor her memory is encouraged to make a donation to his or her favorite charity in her name.
