James Owen “Jimmy” Messer

Concord, James O. “Jimmy” Messer 56, died Sunday, June 17, 2018 in Skowhegan following a yearlong battle with cancer. Jimmy was born December 23, 1961 in Skowhegan to Ellingford and Priscilla (Hartwell) Messer. Jimmy grew up in Concord, graduated from Valley High School in Bingham with the class of 1980 and has been a lifelong resident of Concord. Jimmy worked in the wood products industry as a lumber grader and scaler with the former North Anson Reel Mill and most recently as a crane operator and scaler for Morgan Lumber Yard in Bingham.

An avid outdoor person is an understatement. In his younger years Jimmy, his dad and his brothers would be deer hunting in the fall, fishing the local brooks streams, ponds and the Kennebec river in the summer and the winter months ice fishing. Fly fishing the running waters of the Kennebec was Jimmy’s true passion. From the early spring until fishing season closed in the fall, the waters of the Kennebec flowed through Jimmy. All who knew him were aware of his love of the river.

Jimmy was predeceased by his mother, Priscilla (Hartwell) Messer, a brother Michael Messer and a niece Andrea Messer. He will be sadly missed by his surviving family, father Ellingford “Buggy” Messer of Concord, brothers, Ricky Messer and his wife Judy of Jackman and Charles Messer and his wife Tammy of Moscow, and sister in law Danette Messer of Moscow, Jimmy loved his nieces and nephews. Uncle Jimmy will be remembered as someone who was always there for birthdays, Christmas and family gatherings by Susan Davis, Tiffany Hanf, Deidra Messer and Daniel Messer, great nieces and nephews, Alexis and Matthew Davis, Benjamin and Lilliana Hanf and he was very proud to share his name with the most recent great nephew Owen Michael Morgan.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday July 8, 2018 at 11:00AM to 2:00PM at Buggy and Jimmy’s home, 2590 Kennebec River Rd., in Concord.

Jimmy was very grateful and appreciative of all his care givers during his illness, Doctors, nurses, and other hospital and nursing care staff. Thank you all. He was most appreciative of his home family caregivers, aunt Roberta (Hartwell) Carter, sisters in law Tammy and Danette Messer and niece Susan Davis. He loved you all.
