MADISON – John N. Collins of Madison, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. John, son of Garth and Mary Collins, was born on June 21, 1947.

John was predeceased by his parents Mary and Garth Collins, wife Patsy, and sister Maralyn Mitchell.

John grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison High School in 1965. In John’s early years he worked at Blue Rock. Later, John joined Somerset Telephone Company starting on the line crew and retiring as an installer and repairman in 2008.

Within the community, John was well known and liked, known by many and often seen actively walking streets of Madison and regularly attending his grandson’s baseball games.

John is survived by his daughter Meghan Lightbody and husband Robert, son Brian M. Nelson, and daughter’s Kimberly Collins and Bobbi-Jean Collins. John is also survived by grandchildren Luke and Noah Lightbody, Connor and Gage Nelson, Brecken Newton and Jotham Witham. John is survived by his great grandchildren Rowen, River, Hanna, Jaelyn. Survived also by John are sister Jackie Steward and husband Arnold, Elayne Charron, Roxanne Cannon and husband Paul, Rhonda Collins, brother Garth Collins and wife Debbie, brother-in-law Brad Mitchell, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

There will be no visiting hours. A funeral mass is planned for Friday, June 17, at 10 a.m., at St. Sebastian Catholic Church on Main Street in Madison. A celebration of life luncheon will follow at the VFW in Madison. A burial service will be held at Sunset Cemetery in North Anson June 18, at 10 a.m.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services in Madison.
