John McCormick Jr. Obituary

John P McCormick Jr, 53, left this world to soar with the angels on April 17, 2021 after a battle with brain cancer. He was born on May 1, 1967. He graduated from Smithtown High School, New York in 1985.

John joined the Navy after high school to explore the world. After the Navy, he settled in San Diego, California and became a sheriff’s deputy for 15 years. He then moved across the country and settled in Maine where he met the love of his life Janice. Together, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked for the Las Vegas Monorail for 10 years, and together they explored much of the west coast, and visited the Bahamas (Cat Island) every chance they had.

Two years ago, John & Janice bought an RV and together with their cat, Whiskers, set off to explore the rest of the country. They worked in Colorado in the Rocky Mountains. They worked in the Okefenokee Swamp where John got to play with the alligators, and they worked in Maine to spend more time with the families.

John loved to explore new places, whether planned or spontaneously. You never knew where you would end up while exploring with John. He loved every critter, big and small, and he loved his family.

John was entranced by the desert, he felt at home there. He loved to learn about the flowers and the cactus and all the critters that he could find, and he would explore every road he could find. In his final months, Janice was able to get John back to the desert that he so loved.
