Joyce Catherine McDonald, 72, of Moscow, died peacefully on February 2, 2025.
Joyce was born on December 10, 1952, in Spencer, Massachusetts, the daughter of David and Jane (Kilby) Smith. She married her love, George McDonald, on June 20th, 1975. They moved to George's hunting camp in Moscow, Maine, the following year. Over the next several years, they built a home on that property, and she resided there until her passing.
Joyce was a woman of many talents, including crocheting, knitting, sewing, and painting. She was a regular at the Bingham Craft Fair and was the local Girl Scout leader for several years. She had a remarkable green thumb, tending to her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and enjoying canning her harvest.
Joyce wholeheartedly supported her children's aspirations, introducing her daughters, Mary and Melinda, to pageants and modeling school and standing behind them in every endeavor. She took pride in helping her son Dan's journey as a first-generation college student, supporting Melinda through cosmetology school, and encouraging Mary to follow her passion for writing. Faith was central to Joyce's life, and she taught her children about God and Jesus, and gave them a deep spirituality. Those who knew her will forever cherish her love, guidance, and creativity.
Joyce leaves behind her loving husband, George McDonald; her son, Daniel McDonald, his wife, Maureen, and their children, Logan, Lucy, and Levi; her daughter, Melinda McDonald; and her nephews, Wayne and Scot Wentworth, whom she grew up closely with and regarded as brothers, and their families.
Joyce's parents, her beloved daughter, Mary, and her nephew, Dale Wentworth, predeceased her.
The family will hold a graveside service on June 7th @ 2:00 pm at Robinson Memorial Cemetery in Moscow, Maine.
