Leonard’s Obituary
Leonard G. Moore, 63, of Cornville, passed away Thursday, June 12. Leonard was born in Skowhegan, October 1961 to Maxell and Jeannine (Begin) Moore.
Leonard graduated from Madison High School in 1980. He met his future wife shortly afterwards and married Karen (Granville) Moore on his birthday in October 1989.
Leonard worked as a dump truck driver for Lloyd and Mike Merrill, as an independent pulp truck driver for T R Dillon Logging of Madison, and as a small engine technician for Whittemore and Sons of Skowhegan. He was known by family and friends as a man who could fix anything.
As a younger man, Leonard enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was also an avid race fan. He was part of his father’s pit crew while Maxell raced at Unity in the 1980s and ‘90s, and he enjoyed watching his son, brothers, cousins, nephews, and friends pursue their various racing careers at local tracks. He was also fortunate to attend several NASCAR races at Louden, NH.
Leonard also enjoyed building construction, and he helped several friends and relatives build garages, decks, and homes. He was especially proud of designing and building his own home from the ground up. During his time as a pulp truck driver, he was able to choose the trees to be milled out to lumber for the house. He drafted the plans with his brother-in-law Chris Whalen and built the entire structure with a lot of help from more family members and friends. He made sure the house was large enough to host family events of all types. As he wished, the house was always full of friends and loved ones.
Leonard was also an animal lover who rescued an orphaned racoon kit and an owl that had been hit by a car. His lap was the preferred spot for several generations of cats and dogs. He also helped cared for Karen’s flock of assorted chickens. He spent the day before his last heart attack building a “catwalk” to make easier access to the cat door and a new ramp to the coop for an expected batch of chicks.
Leonard is survived by his wife Karen, his children Ben and Emily, his brother Larry, sisters Liane and Laura, half-sister Meredith, half-brothers Jason and Matt, as well as sisters-in-law Robin Moore, Marion Moore, and Gail Moore, mother-in-law Marcia, and all their families. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. Leonard loved having a large family and would want all his relatives to know how special they were to him, even though there is not enough space to list them all here.
He is predeceased by both parents, his brothers Lonnie and Leland, and several long-time friends including Chuck and Wade.
Please join his family for a celebration of his life, Saturday, July 12, at 3:00, at the home he built for them, in Cornville, Maine.
