Mildred "Snookie" Gordon

Amesbury - Mildred "Snookie" Gertrude Gordon—longtime resident of Amesbury, and formerly of Cambridge, MA, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, with her family by her side. She was 76.

Born in Cambridge, MA, on May 22, 1945, Mildred was one of six children of the late Frederick and Mildred Vargus of Cambridge, MA. She grew up in the South End, Boston, MA, and got married to the late Anthony Muse, of East Boston, MA, in 1961, and had five daughters, Lisa, Milly, Susie, Kathy, and Jackie. After her divorce she met the love of her life and married the late Samuel Gordon, of Chelsea, MA. In 1968 they had two son's Sonny and Michael. They bought a house in Amesbury with their seven children in 1976, where she remained until her passing.

"Snookie" was the family's matriarch. Her true fulfillment and joy in life came from her family. She went above and beyond for everyone. Her home was a "safe haven" for family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and gathered the family to enjoy her homemade soups and delicious meals. "Snookie" made every holiday special for her children and grandchildren. There were many Easter Egg Hunts in her backyard, on Halloween she traditionally made her Everything soup, passed out caramel pops. Thanksgiving was Lasagna, two or three turkeys and homemade Tapioca Pudding. Christmas was for the children their presents and spend time with family.

With sorrow and sadness, "Snookie" leaves behind her children, Lisa Barlow and husband Kevin, of PI in Newbury, Mildred Papkey and husband Robbie of Amesbury, Susan Clark and husband Mike of Amesbury, Kathleen Woo of Amesbury, Jacqueline Muse and husband Darren of Derry, NH, Samuel "Sonny" Gordon of Amesbury, Michael Gordon and Erin of Kingston, NH; her brothers John Vargus and wife Gloria of North Conway, NH, Frederick ("Freddie") Vargus and wife Helen of Boston, MA; her sister, Susan ("Sue") DeMasi of Amesbury. She was also predeceased by siblings Linda Vargus and Tommy Vargus of Cambridge, MA.

Known as "Grandma," who also survive her are her grandchildren; Kevin, Elyssa, Cassandra, Ashley, Robin, Lisa, Kristina, Kayla, Michael, Anthony, Tyrone, Tricia, Samantha, Jackie, Chelsea, Tina, Taylor, Riley, Peyton, Maggie, Jake, Nathan and Logan; her great-grandchildren Emma, Olivia, Madelyn, Caleb, Jeffrey, Evelyn, Julia, Liam, Greyson, Dominic, Vienna, Neveah, Cameron, Grace, Willow, Oliver.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 24, at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple Street Madison, Maine, followed by burial in Sunset Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 23, 2021, at Toscano's in Peabody, MA, from 1 to 5 p.m. If you are interested in attending Celebration of Life please send requests to the following email address.
