Patricia Miller Obituary

Bingham

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Patricia A. Miller 78, of Bingham Maine.

Pat courageously faced her death during her battle with mesothelioma.  She was surrounded by her family as she went home to be with the Lord .  Her faith was a very important part of her life and she had been a member and deacon of the Congregational Church in Solon over the last 12 years.

Pat was born in Montville Maine , the youngest child of Irene Joyce (Clark) Abbott  and Roland C. Abbott. Later, her family traveled to Kansas every fall where her stepfather, Harold Prentice taught school. They traveled back to Maine every summer where Pat enjoyed many escapades with her siblings and cousins.

Pat graduated in 1960 from Johnson High School in Kansas and from the University of Maine at Farmington in 1976.  She taught school at the Solon Elementary School for 32 years and while teaching earned her masters degree in computer science and education from Lesley College in Massachusetts.

In 1962 Pat married Loren Miller and together they raised 3 children and cared for many others along the way.  Pat loved children and often bought clothing and bedding for those in her community that were in need.  In 1998, she became aware of one of her students being in an unsafe situation at their home and she brought him home to care for and advocate for until her death.  Her love for Matt is a perfect example of who she was and how she loved.

As a lifelong learner Pat had many hobbies and interests. She loved adorning her garden beds with unique flowers and worked in her vegetable garden for hours.  She was a member of the Bloomfield Garden Club in Skowhegan and made many wreaths every fall for friends and family. From Maine to Indiana and Virginia , her wreaths decorated homes and barns every Christmas.

Pat shared her love of horses with her husband Loren. Together they owned and pulled Belgian draft horses for many years. Pat formed life long friendships with other horse owners in the northeast and beyond.

Pat and Loren formed a deep friendship with many of the Amish in Lagodee, Indiana and with one family in particular.  Many school vacations were spent with her amish friends.  Her special friendship with Wilma and Dorothy Knepp and their large extended family were very important to her.

Pat was very close with her beloved cousins Ron, Gary, Mona and Reggie and she loved spending time with them.

Pat enjoyed the close friendships with other teachers. Her special friends Donalie Burbank and Jen LaChance, were dear to her.

Pat is survived by her husband Loren of 58 years and her children Suwayne Miller, Todd and his wife Michelle Miller and Shannon Miller,   her grandson Kevin Later and his wife Leah and their children Lily and Austin,  her half sister Susan Abbott. Many nieces and nephews

There will be a memorial service which is tentatively scheduled for July 10th.
