Pauline Dorothy (Manzer) Viles 

1936-2026 

Skowhegan – Pauline “Polly” Dorothy Viles passed away surrounded by her family on May 27, 2026, at Redington Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan.  

Polly was born in Anson, Maine on June 18, 1936, the daughter of Amy and Ralph Manzer, Sr. She graduated as the valedictorian from Anson Academy, class of 1954 and married her husband, Earl, on August 20, 1954. 

Polly was a loving mother, homemaker, and farmer in her early years of marriage.  After her children graduated from high school, she went to work at H&R Block, Campbells True Value, and served on the Board of Directors for the school district before retiring with her husband, Earl. She was also the secretary for the North Anson Snowmobile Club for many years. She and Earl enjoyed traveling. They visited 49 states and all the Canadian provinces. She was also a great baker as many who enjoyed her treats can attest to.  

Polly is survived by her children, David Viles and his wife Cheryl of Oakland, Nancy Caron of Standish, Edward Viles and his wife Susan of Skowhegan; sisters Evangeline Bessey of North Anson and Shirley Poirier of Gorham, brothers Frank Manzer of North Anson, Sherman Manzer and his wife June of Skowhegan; seven grandchildren, Weston Viles of Portland, Lauren O’Reilly and husband Jason of Hampden, Timothy Caron and wife Nadine of Bridgton, Brandon Caron of Standish, Christopher Caron of Porter, Jodi Viles of Skowhegan, Tasha Goodrich and husband Kevin of Skowhegan; seven great-grandchildren, Kyle Rosell, Lillian, Jack, Christopher and David Caron, Jacob and Savannah Garland; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 70 years, Earl; her parents, her brothers Ralph Manzer, Jr, and Charles Manzer; her sisters-in-law Dorothy Manzer and Alverna “Puggie” Manzer; her brothers-in-law Vaughn Bessey and David Poirier. 

A graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery, in North Anson, on Saturday, July 11 at 11:00 am with a gathering at the family home to follow.
