Robert Dunphy Obituary

Embden -Robert Alvah (Bobby) Dunphy, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 27 at his home in Embden, Maine. He was born on March 3,1948 in Skowhegan, Maine, the son of Robert L and Thelma Berry Dunphy. He attended Anson Academy and graduated in 1967. He went to the University of Maine to study Civil Engineering and joined the Army National Guard the following year. Bobby married Dorothy Padham in 1968.

As a young man, he worked for his family’s business in many different roles. As he grew in life and in his interests, he worked for the US Postal service as a rural carrier and tried a variety of jobs and business adventures. He served the Town of Embden as Selectman, Fire Warden and School Board Member. He was a Deputy Plumbing Inspector, Health Officer, Emergency Management Director and Code Enforcement Officer for a number of towns and unorganized townships. He was a County Commissioner for Somerset’s District 2, a position he was very proud to fill.

One of Bobby’s biggest passions was public service. In addition to his deep interest in local politics, he had been a loyal and committed member of the Masons and American Legion for many years. His connections to these organizations inspired him and he truly appreciated all of his Brothers.

Bobby was very social, enjoying any event that brought people together. He decorated for many high school proms, loved family reunions and planned his 50th high school reunion with great enthusiasm. He had a quirky sense of humor and loved a good antic. He competed with his grandsons in the Tough Mountain Challenge at Sunday River, an accomplishment he delighted in. “Uncle Bobby” was the adult that never said no, no matter what was asked.

He loved a good snowstorm and couldn’t wait to watch accumulations and get out the plow. He enjoyed gardening, often sowing by moonlight and weeding with headlights after long days at work. He was an avid bee keeper and loved to share his passion with anyone willing to listen.

He is survived by his wife and four children, Melissa (Blaine) Miller of Embden, Patrick (Carrie) Dunphy of Manitowoc, WI, Pamela Lattin and Nathan Lattin, Karen Hust of GA, six grandsons, (Ian, Brody, Seamus, Louis (Lisa), Lucas (Devin), Logan), a sweet granddaughter (Lillie) and four great grand children (Lexi, Lincoln, Alex and Ava), two brothers, Gary (Lisa) and Larry (Cindy) and a sister Betty, a beloved sister-in-law, Bonnie and many nieces and nephews whom he absolutely adored. He is predeceased by his parents and two nephews, Rusty and Donovan.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 3 at the Solon Congregational Church, 86 North Main Street, Solon, Maine. Family and friends are invited to the Masonic Lodge in North Anson following the service for some good stories and a cup of coffee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Robert’s memory be made to the Masonic Northern Star Lodge #28 in care of Brian Nelson 172 Solon Road, North Anson, ME 04958.
