The family of Sadie C. Sturtevant announces with great sadness her passing on July 23, 2023.
Sadie was born January15, 1929 on Janvrins Island in Nova Scotia, Canada to John Dan and Theresa Pelham. Mom's father passed away when she was only nine months old. While still quite young, she moved alone to the U.S. To become a nanny for a family in the Boston area. Later when her mother moved from Nova Scotia to Madison, she relocated to be close to family and a caretaker to her mother.
Sadie met her husband of 54 years Charles and they married in September of 1959. She held several positions during her working years, at the spinning mill, Norwalk Shoe, and Maplecrest Nursing Home at the time of her retirement.
Our mom enjoyed planting her flowers in the spring, listening to country music, and loved to go dancing on Saturday nights. She watched Wheel Of Fortune and Jeopardy faithfully every night and we all knew not to call her when her shows were on. She was always up for a trip to the coast, and enjoyed a good lobster roll.
She leaves behind her daughters, Linda Adams and her husband David of Madison, Doreen Poulin and husband Lee of Oakland, and Diane Headley and husband Dr. Stan Headley of Ft. Myers; Granddaughters Darcy Adams, Jennifer Beaulieu, and Veronica Hewett; Son-in-law Nelson Staley.
Sadie was predeceased by her parents; her husband Charles; her daughter, Carolyn Staley; and sister, Patricia Rodenhizer.
A special thank you to moms caretaker and friend Lacey MacDonald.
There will be a graveside service at Forrest Hill Cemetery, Park Street, Madison on Saturday August 5th at 1:00. We wish to invite family and friends to celebration of life to be held at the Poulin residence at 26 Wedgewood Dr. in Oakland.
