Stuart Mahlon Turner

Madison, Stuart Mahlon Turner, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 10 at Charles A. Dean Nursing Center in Greenville, Maine. Stuart was born April 8, 1927 in Buckfield, Maine, son of Ernest and Myra Turner. After graduating Buckfield High School in 1945, Stuart enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country during W.W. II and the Korean Conflict. Stuart later attended the University of Maine at Orono and received a bachelor’s degree in Forestry. He married Marilyn J. McCannell in 1951 and lived in Princeton, Maine. There he worked at Eastern Pulpwood until 1955. He later moved to Jackman, Maine with his wife and worked as a Junior Forester for Scott Paper Company. In 1970 Stuart became District Superintendent until his retirement in April of 1993. Stuart raised his family in Jackman and was a devoted family man and a loving father to his children. Stuart was active in his Jackman community. He served the town's Budget Committee, Board of Selectmen (chairman), Scout Troop 497, School Board (chairman) and Regional Health Center (advisor) for over thirty years. Stuart was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, tracking, and trapping. He also enjoyed playing bingo with his wife and watching the Red Sox. He is survived by his children, Alan and wife Carol (Hampden), Anne (Turner) and husband Alan Duplessis (Jackman) Scott Turner and wife Jean (Jackman), Eric Turner, (Jackman), Kent Turner and wife Danae (Jackman), and Heidi Turner (Jackman). He is survived by his brother Mark Turner and wife Sandy of Portsmouth, N.H. as well as 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Charles A. Dean Nursing Center for their wonderful care of Stuart during his stay with them. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Stuart will be Saturday, November 24, at 10:00 am at Moose River Congregational Church in Jackman. A family graveside service will be held at Buckfield Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Stuart to the Jackman Community Health Center. P.O.
