Teal Towle

SMITHFIELD, ME – Teal Towle, 65, of Smithfield, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, while generously lending a helping hand to his neighbors. He was born in Skowhegan on April 20, 1961, the son of Donald and Angela Towle.

A lifetime resident of Smithfield and a beloved son, Teal graduated from Skowhegan Area High School in 1979. He began his career as an independent logging contractor before spending the remainder of his working years as an operator at Sappi Paper in Somerset. In the early days of Maine’s commercial rafting industry, he also served as a Registered Maine Whitewater Guide. From a young age, Teal worked alongside his father as a talented dog trainer, competing and excelling in high-level field trials throughout his teenage years. Above all, Teal was a kind, generous, and independent man. Deeply devoted to his family, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, no matter how big or small the task.

Teal possessed a deep love for the outdoors, feeling most at home surrounded by the woods or near the water. Whether he was out fishing, hunting, or working with his dogs, with whom he shared a natural, effortless bond, he was always in his element. Over the years, Teal held a special place in his heart for Pine Tree Camp in Rome, proudly supporting its mission to bring joy and community to Maine people with disabilities.

Teal is survived by his parents, Donald and Angela Towle; his brother, Todd Towle, and his wife, Monique Poulin; his beloved nephew and niece, Finn and Callahan Towle; as well as a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.

A graveside service will be held at Gould Cemetery in Smithfield on Friday, August 21, at 11:00 AM. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather at the Smithfield Fairview Grange to share memories and celebrate Teal’s life.
