Thomas Everett Sylvester

The Forks - Thomas E. Sylvester, 76, of Lake Moxie in The Forks, passed peacefully surrounded by his family at Cedar Ridge Center on August 18, 2021.
Tom was born in Lewiston, Maine, on April 26, 1945, to Robert A. Sylvester and Florence E. Stevens. He grew up in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1966. Following graduation, Tom entered the US Navy in November 1966 and proudly served his country with tours in Vietnam, the Mediterranean, and finishing out his service in Virginia where he was honorably discharged on September 18, 1970.
After being discharged from the Navy, Tom moved to The Forks and began working at Harris Station. He worked there for 40 years until he retired in June 2011. Tom was also a selectmen for several years for The Forks Plantation, MSAD #13 School Board member, the Town Fire Warden for 30 years, Lake Moxie Dam Keeper for 30 years, a Lifetime Member of The Forks Fish and Game, a Mason of Keystone Lodge No. 0080 in Solon, Maine, a Shriner of the Kora Shiners of The Valley, The Androscoggin, and Portland, and a valued member of the West Forks Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years.
Tom married the love of his life, Vesta “Tootie” Mae Holbrook, on October 2, 1971, in Auburn. They lived and raised their two children, Thomas Evertte Sylvester II and Anna Kate Sylvester, on Lake Moxie in The Forks. They spent their years together hunting, ice fishing, fly fishing, and camping in to Lone Jack creating together a legacy and many memories. In their later years they took trips to Washington, D.C. and Alaska.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Vesta Sylvester. He is also survived by his 2 children, his son Thomas E. Sylvester II and wife Heather of The Forks, and daughter Anna Kate Sylvester and partner Charles Napolitano of The Forks; grandchildren Kaitlyn E. Sylvester of Illinois, Pigeon K. Sylvester of The Forks, and Thomas E. Sylvester III of The Forks; sisters Janet Morton and husband Geoffrey of Louisiana, Sharon Goding and husband Dana of Auburn, Kathryn Martin and husband Dennis of Pleasant Ridge, and Joanne Berry of Durham; as well as many nieces and nephews, other family members, and all the friends he made along the way.
Per Tom’s wishes, no funeral services will be held, but a gathering will be held to celebrate his incredible life at a later date to be announced by the family.
